It might of interest to Karl May readers to know that the Apache words in Karl May’s Winnetou books were actually San Carlos Apache, even though Winnetou was supposed to. Seven essays, collected here for the first time, define some of the central concerns of linguistic anthropology through the close study of Western Apache, a language of astonishing complexity.
